Hi, I've been looking through my mothers recipe and putting them in my computer. I found this one (see attached in scrape book) that she had noted was very much like Esther Kirkman's. Mamma was very fond of Esther and spoke of her often. Enjoy. Joyce A Bishop [joyceabishop@@juno.com]

Mervyn Kirkman was born in Visalia, California, to Frank Charles Kirkman and Ester Elizabeth Hash Kirkman. Mervyn was the first child in this marriage and soon after his brother Charles was born their mother Esther passed away due to kidney problems.
Mervyn's father's sudden marriage to Mary Borgman within six months of his mother's passing certainly helped fuel the stressful relationship that developed between the boys and their stepmother. Mervyn's stepmother Mary resolved this issue with Mervyn and Charles to the relief of other family members prior to his passing in 1966.
After school each day Mervyn and his brother Charles helped with the chores at the Venice Hill ranch while their father was at work. In the meantime they were blessed with additional siblings; Donald, Richard and Jeanne.
He was educated in local schools where he participated in choir, baseball and basketball. After graduation from Visalia Junior College he married Vivian Earlene Jordan at her parents home 2.75 miles south of Farmersville, Tulare County, California.
They lived in Los Angeles where Mervyn worked in construction and then moved back to the Jordan Brothers Ranch (owned by James E. and William F. "Bill" Jordan) where they lived and Mervyn worked on the ranch. He later became a partner in the Jordan Brother's farming corporation along with farming on his own in the Farmersville area.
After the death of his partner and father in law James Earl Jordan, Mervyn continued to farm grapes, deciduous fruit and continue his partnership with Nelson Roper in the fruit packing/shipping business. Mervyn went to work for Nash De Camp after Mr. Roper's death and a packing house fire. He was working for Nash De Camp at the time of his Death.
