| The E. S. Balaam Store on West Pine Street was one of the first stores in Exeter. Built at the south east corner of H and Pine Streets ( 304 Pine St.) in 1893, it served the area until closing in Janurary, 1909. The business closed when E. S. Balaam retired, and his sons moved onto something else. The painting and decorating firm of Vincent and Catlin, moved into the building by the beginning of April, 1909. The photograph shows E. S. Balaam standing at the right with Orvel Schelling on the wagon. The others, from left to right are Grant Kirkman, Bill Davis, Pat Balaam and Walt Balaam. |
